Just picked up an '09 Ninja 250r on Friday. Got it for $2000 with 940 miles on it. Its the red color. EDIT: Got some up. Not sure how to embed though if someone would like to enlighten me.

It's fun so far. Especially the twisties. Went for a 150 mile ride with some guys last night and that was a blast. Need to build up my sitting and riding muscles though.
The only thing I wish it had was a little more pep doing highway speeds. It'll cruise at 80 all day, but acceleration from 70-80 to pass could be a bit faster. Still better than my car though.

I'll be getting a full exhaust for it sometime in the near future as well as putting a BMC air filter in it. Looking for recommendations on exhausts. Was looking at the Two Bros, the full system adds 4hp and drops 7 pounds which is a lot for this bike, or a Yoshi, but I've been told Yoshi's are better suited for Suzuki's. Also pondering a Leo Vince but they're expensive...no reason to put a $1500 exhaust on a $2000 bike right. I plan on keeping it until at least next spring.

If you weigh more than 150lbs....Invest your money in suspension upgrades.

It will turn your 250 into a bike that can rival 600/1000cc Supersports in the twisties, and make it a viable track day weapon if you get bit by the track bug.

Front = Springs + RaceTech Gold Valve emulators with professional setup will set you back @$500

Rear = A Hagon (http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/HAGON_MONOSHOCKS.html) is the best bang for the buck option for the wee-Ninja @$375.

Other rear options include Works Performance which will set you back $500 for a fully adjustable shock, and Ohlins/Penske which is race quality at @$1100

Definitely working on the suspension is the best "mod" you can do to a bike. Forget SS brake lines, slip ons, and HID kits. Even on the street, just having the suspension properly set for your weight will make a noticeable difference. For an older bike, servicing the suspension would also be good, but since your Ninja is an 09 this likely isn't necessary. Doubt you would seriously need to consider doing anything beyond upgrading the springs in the front forks though.

Depending on your set up, SS lines make a tremendous difference. On my R6 (all radial brembo set up), it made the clamping unbeliavablu crisp. As close to on/off and linear response as I've seen.

It's not the SS lines that makes the difference, it's bleeding the brakes and changing the fluid.. Especially on a system with radial calipers, you're not going to see a difference on the street going to SS lines (other than that they look cool)

The fluid that come out was pretty much as clean as the one going in. I don't think the linear response comes from the fluid, but rather the lines not bulging under pressure.

I've never heard of that, and to be honest, I have a lot of trouble believing that the lines would expand enough to be noticeable. Do you have any hard evidence to back that up? It would be a mod I'd consider if there really is some benefit.

I'm looking at a full exhaust. I'd gain roughly 4 hp and drop about 8 pounds. Should help out. I only weight 140 lbs so i'm not a big guy.

Suspension is something to think about. I work at a motorcycle retailer so I get a bunch of stuff for huge discounts. I mostly do highway driving with some city mixed in. Not sure how much a suspension would be affected.

I was thinking Two bros or Yoshi full system, BMC air filter and I need to change the oil.

Accelerating and turning are both more fun than stopping. ;)

wtf you practically robbed somebody. 09 Ninja with 1k miles for 2k, I think 09 still go for ~3400? Where did you find this deal?

If you get the suspension dialed in, it will feel like a completely new bike. It will feel glued to the ground and soak up bumps and uneven pavement while providing great feedback.

I consider a well sorted out suspension to be a HUGE safety improvement. The better planted the bike stays the better the available traction and braking performance of the tires will be.

you really like red. now go convince my friend to get a ninja 250 instead of a scooter.

i hate scooters. i think people who get them should really get a bike instead, that way they can keep up with traffic and stay off the damn side of the road.
