Edit: Nevermind... switched netscape to imap, only leaves mailwasher needing ssl

Well, I can imagine this has been done before, but I have specific issues..

My university e-mail will soon require SSL authentication to work. I've used Netscape Messenger bundled with Communicator 4.some-4.79 for the past, I dunno, 5 years on my old Pentium 150 MHz laptop with 48 megs of ram (at desk) for e-mail. I use this for basic e-mail. Straight ASCII characters, no HTML, no fancy graphics... basic words and attachments.

I don't want Outlook or any other program that has high susceptiblity to viruses for my e-mail. It needs to support SSL and POP (I'm trying to avoid switching to the IMAP service... I'm just used to how pop works now). I'd consider an upgrade to netscape 7 (which does Pop and SSL) if it weren't for the system requirements suggesting it'll run like ass on this machine.

Any suggestions on what I should look into?

On a side note: I've had no luck with configuring mailwasher to use SSL... using the latest 2.0 beta the box for ssl is greyed out. Is that because of the e-mail program's lack of support or the mailwasher program's lack ? Will I need to use another spam filter software?

Grr at the U of Wisconsin university for doing this with my free e-mail.

EDIT: Well, switched to using imap for netscape 4.79. Extra folders are a big blah, but at least it's compatible. Now if only I could find a mailwasher ssl button.
