Okay when I'm playing CS, I can hit W, A, and shift (walk forward-left) and it'll walk diagonally left... but when I hit W, D, and shift (walk forward-right) it beeps and doesn't work. So what causes it to beep when I switch from A to D keys?

edit: okay I think it's probably because the w and d keys are somehow wired through the same electrical channel or something like that. That's my guess but since it is kind of annoying when playing CS, I wouldn't get this keyboard. It's called a Logitech Internet Keyboard and it retails for about $14.

winXp does some screwed up things with the keyboard while playing games.

you can use tweakUI to disable "beep on errors" but it wont make the key combo work.

HTH :D

odd? i've used that keybaord for years and it never had any problems with wasd key conflicts.

something else is wrong, else logitech would be scrweed as most every gamer uses wasd, and many many have logitech keybaords. i think you got a defective one or something else is wrong.

i now use a ms natural multimedia keyboard cuz i wanted split keys.

I love logitech too. I don't think it's defective though. I'll keep it though, it has the softest keys ever and they're dead silent... CS isn't everything...

No wait, it is everything. I stand corrected.

Oh it's may not be defective, but it's certainly non-standard. Just try using it with BeOS. Some PCs beep like hell as soon as you plug it in. That keyboard is F'ed up!

I wouldn't mind the beeping so much if it worked. I can actually move to the left and forward without beeping. When I do the same to the right, not only does it beep at me, but it will only move forward or only move right.

Keyboards are made with various key "matrices" (Plural of matrix). You can only press a certain amount of keys within that matrix. Apparantly, the keybord has a poorly laid-out matrix for WASD players... BAD keyboard! CTRL, ALT, SPACE, ENTER, etc all have their own matrix, so they're never a problem.

Oh, and like I mentioned above: This keyboard DOES have other problems!

As I understand it:

Try reducing the key repeat rate, the buffer for the key press is overflowing, hence the beep.

When too many keys on those rubber-martix type keyboards (99% of them now, very few IBM style buckling spring boards) then pressing the other keys on the sub-martix just results in nothing, the keyboard doesnt even know theyre pressed because the circuits are already connected.

Edit: as for my logitech internet navigator.... Couldnt ever reccomend it. The keys have a nice feel, I'll give it that. But theres the frickin' User key which is just so slightly raised button, that instantly exits windows and lets you choose another user. It's positioned diagonally beside Esc. No, when in the middle of a game you do not want to miss Esc and hit the User key instead. The F-keys are ridiculous aswell, every time you restart the PC you have to remember to hit the F-Lock key so the F keys actually function as F keys and not the ridiculous pap logitech decided makes better use of those keys (btw there is some way around this, I think i read it on inquirer.com). But if it can remember Caps and Num lock, why not F lock? Take all the extra stuff off and leave it with just the basic keys and it would be a really nice keyboard, the problem is with all the crap they stuck on it.

not sure if it'll help at this point, but I used to use logitech boards until I tried microsoft keyboards.

using the MS Natural multimedia board now which is ergonomic and has multimedia controls. $26 at newegg and the best keyboard I've used. Wish it came in a usb version though.
