*edit* LCD TV recommendations?

I know I said CRT's the first time (before editing), but it turns out my roommate wants an LCD TV for portability's sake. So any recommendations on brands or even specific models?

Image quality first, then reliability/durability.

The problem that I have with the majority of 20" LCD TV's is that many of them are the same price as the Dell 2005FP, a full-fledged monitor!

Is there ANY way to hook up a computer LCD monitor as a TV? I have a spare laptop that I can use with a USB TV tuner, but I heard those are crappy plus they add to the overall expense, not to mention my lappy only has analog and no DVI.

Toshiba would be my first choice
Samsung and sharp would be tied for second.
I would prefer not to get the rest, but if the price was right ... A TV is a TV .....

From that list, Toshiba.

When I bought my 27" TV, consumer reports had the reliability something like:
1. Toshiba
2. Panasonic
3. Phillips Magnavox
....
DEAD LAST. RCA

Picture quality
1. Sony
...

Panasonic makes some nice TVs also, when I got my HD Tau series it was about 400 less than a Sony of comparable or lesser specs.

Philips = Magnavox these days buddy. That said, I like my philips 30" hdtv, it's pretty nice.

I just NOW picked one up. 🙂 A factory refurbed model: 30PW850H for ~$350 shipped after coupon code from Electronics Nation, too sweet a deal to pass up. And seriously I just bought it 5 minutes ago and can't wait to finally own an HDTV! How long have you had yours and what model is it?

Believe it or not I have a Daewoo 27" flat CRT that I got in your price range and the picture is amazing. The features are pretty basic though.

I'm not even sure if Apex was listed in 1999. But I remember RCA had like 25-30% failure rate while the first three I listed were like 5%.

I have a couple of Toshiba 26" Flat HD-TV Tubes in my store and I must say that they have a really awesome picture to them

Ok, 1999, I see. Apex is now the king of dead last in Consumer Reports.

I actually have a Konka 27" flat tube from Best Buy. It's really not bad at all, great picture, and was $189. I only bought it because I had a $100 BB gift card that I would probably never use on anything else. I was pleasantly surprised. Get get the cheapest one you can find to tide you over while you save for a BIG ol HDTV 🙂

Samsung makes good monitors, but their TVs are still behind the competition, IMO. If we must go by brand and not specific model, Toshiba is the clear choice.
