I'm taking my California Drivers License test tommorow. Anybody have any tips for me? I'm feeling a bit nervous that I'll do something stupid and not pass.

How was your drivers test? Did you pass the first time?

EDIT:

hey guys. I took my test this morning and passed :) I missed 5 points becuase the instructor said I was going 1-2 miles over the speed limit in a residential zone (25mph). Not bad though. I drove extremely conservitive and went out of my way to turn my head at intersections. I'm so excited :)

I haven't done a driving test yet and I'm 22, there wasn't any real need to own a car since I live beside town.

But starting my theory lessons next week, then for the practical, yay me.

There's what, half a dozen of those lights in the state?

Theres one near my place, though no one ever follows it.

I'm not saying theres many, but I know the place where I took my driving test specifically goes that route.

Heh. Where I live, there is a little course in the back of the DMV that they take you on. It's pretty easy, since the driving schools all know exactly what the course entails, and as such, we were exactly prepared to pass this test.

When looking at the mirrors. Make sure to move your whole head!! Don't just move your eyeballs. Exagerate every movement so there is no doubt that you are doing them. When backing up put one arm on the passenger headrest and turn your head

No, no. You must keep your left arm resting on the windowsill at all times, steer with your right hand only. Also shift with your right hand only. Also, you must have a lit cigarette dangling from your mouth through the entire test. When backing up, you must do so with great sangfroid, and do not look at any of your rearview mirrors. When parallel parking you must drive forward and push anything blocking the way to make space for your car. Then back up and push anything behind you so there is room for you to pull out again. When approaching a stop sign, you must slam on the brakes so that half of your car ends up past the sign, and when you take off again you should slam the pedal to the floor so that you leave a great cloud of smoke and half your tires on the road. Don't forget, it is absolutely essential to have the stereo blasting at full volume through the entire test. In fact, you get bonus points if you have a boom car that the whole neighborhood can hear.

You have to slow down at yield signs! I failed my first time because I didn't do this, even though I was traveling at half the speed limit and my foot was covering the brake.

Yeah, I got the same complaint. That, and I kept stopping past the limit line (I admit that was just stupid). But I passed and 3 years of accident and ticket free driving have followed:D

learn to back up straight. (screwed up on that several times.)

also i kept getting points taken off for driving too slow through a turn.

the "no turn on red" signs are posted all over the intersection. USUALLY they are only at larger intersections.

make very exaggerated motions to check your mirrors. any movement i made, i checked a mirror or looked. excessive but you never know.

drive the speed limit. do not drive below or above it.

make SAFE left turns. i got points deducted for waiting too long. :(

if you're in a place that makes you parallel park as part of the test, definitely practice. being that i took mine in suburbia, it wasn't part of it. :p in SF however it is part of your test.

Sorry, my bad. I also forgot that you must read the newspaper, turning pages with your right hand in between steering and shifting.
