(Edit: I don't) Need An Invisible Fence

GasX

Lifer
I need to keep my dogs a few feet back from the fence so they stop scaring the neighbors (one of them tries to bite) and so that they don't hop the fense as it is only 4' tall anyway.

Are there particular brands that work better than others? And how much work is the installation?

====

edit: I picked up two bark collars yesterday and the change was night and day. Sadly, my one dog who is an absolute dream except for his barking hid upstairs for an hour after getting shocked twice. The territorial one charged the fence twice and got shocked both times (as she barks while charging). The next time someone went by, she took two steps towards the fence and then stopped dead in her tracks and ran back to me...

I feel bad for my other dog though. He's very sensitive and he didn't like the shock at all. 🙁

Hahahaha I totally thought this was a parody of the nudist thread.

 and  either way for making me laugh.

Normally, I would be laughing my ass off at the flip responses, but since my dog has a behavior problem that might lead to me having to put her down, I am more concerned with getting the fence...

I don't know the brand of ours, but it was a lot of work to install. Ours is the type where you lay the electric line about 2 inches under the soil. There are others that you put a transmitter in your attic, and that is all. It took me and my wife a full day to put the line in. It took 2-3 months to get my dog trained.

Mine's a Pet Safe brand which you can get at Home Depot. I bought mine online somewhere with a stubborn version of the shock collar which uses a 9v battery and puts out a bigger shock then the normal ones. Its also a lot bigger and more uncomfortable then the normal ones. I have one dog kind of like your's but she isn't the one I put the collar on, my escaper gets it. I bought one of the much smaller normal collars after about year and it works just aswell now. It does have an adjustable boundry and if your dog is as stubborn as mine you will probably have to set it to the max for awhile just to keep them away from the fence. Even with the stubborn shock collar he would run right up to the fence to great people luckily he is ultra freindly. Instalation was pretty simple in my case. I have a detached garage setting at the back of my yard so I just hooked it up in there, ran the wires out the back, and then weaved it through the bottom the fence. Then in order to complete the loop the way my yard is setup I had to loop it from the bottom where the fence meets my house and run it back to the garage with it weaved through the top of the fence which may be more helpfull in your case to keep the dogs from jumping up on it.

Mine didn't take long to train at all. Having a REAL fence to back up the invisible one helps alot in that matter. They cant just dash through the shock zone and ignore it.

Don't buy the kits with extra wire they way over charge for it. I just bought a big spool of solid core wire at Lowes and used that.

It's good to hear you can snake it through the fence. I could have it installed SOOO much faster that way...

what would make you think one is better than the other ? Just get the one with the best warranty...

What do you mean trained? would they still cross the fence even if they got shocked?

Yes - if they want to go through the fence badly enough, the shock won't even phase them. The shock is pretty intense, but very brief. The success of an invisible fence highly depends on training the dog well.

would it be possible to attach the device to the dog's nads, that'll teach 'em to fear the shock 😀

Sorry if I had any real input on fences, you would have had it already. In the mean time, chain her up?
