My TI-83 plus froze while doing a simple addition. I tried to reboot it by turning it on and off but it didn't so I removed the batteries. This did not help as the calculator is still freezes at power on but now with random pixels on. I have tried to remove the batteries and the backup batteries but this has not helped. When ever I turn it on the screen is filled with random pixels and freezes.

What can I do to fix it?

Put batteries back in.

Hold CLEAR.

Remove Batteries.

Keep hold clear for ~10 seconds.

Reinsert batteries.

Release CLEAR.

Turn on.

Try it out, I did it a while back to my friends TI-83+ and it worked. This method was in the instruction manual.

I have a Ti-83 (not the new one) that I don't use if you need a replacement... I'd sell it fairly cheap.

Well I fixed it sort of.

I tried jacob0401, method and it did clear the memory but the stuck pixels remained. So in uter frustration I slammed it 3-5 times on the desk and that fixed it. I think I'm going to need a new calculator very soon.

Plug it into a computer with a USB link and perform an OS update.

Alternatively, you can see if you can send a new copy of the OS from another calculator (Interestingly, I've never seen this option on mine - either it's just a recent addition, since I stopped updating mine a long time ago, or it's a function specific to bulk-pack calculators)

This suggests corruption of the data stored in the flash ROM. Overwrite it to make sure it's good.
