You are right, it does look slightly different, but it is within a feasable price difference.
Any TV scholars want to comment on how good this type/style of TV is?

Just purchased one from Fairfax store. While I was waiting for mine, the store manager called corp. headquarters to confirm that they had the prices correct on these. He sounded concerned. He told them that he had been open for an hour and sold 5 already. He also had 10+ people calling to reserve some. Then asked, is there a limit on how many someone can buy because someone called in and wanted to order at least 5. He said at this rate we will sell out by tonight.

At 1130 the Fairfax store had about 48 left in stock and 42 more on a shipment due to arrive this week.

IF Staples were to PM, it'd probably be to the $1199 price....are there still $200+ off coupons?

Whoh! is that correce: Response Time 15 ms

That's a faster response time than the Dell 2001FP, and I thought that was the best. What gives?

The new Sharps have a <12ms response time, so even this is not the fastes out there. And yes it probably is correct. Now grant it may not be a 15ms grey to grey transition time, but the normal industry standard time test. It will probably have worst case scenarioes of around 25-30ms delay, which will still be visible. The magic number industry standard response time is 7-8ms, which at this speed, even the worst case scenario will be faster then needed to give the 30fps of info in a TV signal and the 27 fps in movie format.

Personally I am waiting on SED displays to become available sometime mid next year, but if I was buying now, this is a hell of a deal on a 30" TV. Don't pay much attention to the fact that you need a HDTV tuner, since to be honest, you will be using your cable box or satelite box anyway which "is" the tuner. The only time you really need a tuner built in is for over-the-air HDTV broadcast signals, in which case you will still need a decent antenna to get the signal and a local station(s) that broadcast the signal.

Wow. Console gaming via Xbox or PS2 in high-res mode on that thing would be SICK!
Oh well, I'll just have to stick to my 21" NEC S-Video CRT for now. :p Can't quite afford one of those monsters yet.

This is a sweet deal! HDCP compliant DVI as well.

If I didn't already have a 30" HDTV tube I'd buy this. It seems it would make a nice widescreen PC monitor as well.

There are several other deals going on the Houston Microcenter as well. The best prices I saw were on harddrives, but there are decent deals throughout the store. Definitely worth checking out if you need harddrives or optical drives.

I wish the reviews were a little more flattering about this thing. It's at the upper range of what I can afford, so I don't want it to be a dog. Who has one that can provide a Real Life Review?

Is there a microcenter in Wisconsin? I wish I had the cash for one of these-it would make an awesome LCD for a graphics workstation.

I recently bought the 27" Syntax Olevia from Outpost for $999 and must say it is an AWESOME TV! The 27" and 30" share the same cabinet. I was gonna get the 30", but it was $1499 just a couple of weeks ago! I hooked up a set-top HDTV tuner and the picture was unbelievable. I also had to call Syntax tech support b/c my TV was missing one of the back panels. My call was answered within 1 minute and the tech guy was very helpful (I received the panel in about 3 days). Also, those concerned of the name Syntax (relatively unknown), don't. There are only a couple of LCD mfg's out there, and I can promise you my 27" looks just as good as the $2000+ Sharp (26") model.

Just wanted to post for those wondering how this TV looks.

ps. Disregard my user ID...this website is now owned by someone else.
