I traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland in August and came back with these pictures and video taken from my quadcopter.

I was in Edinburgh in December, but I dare not have tried a drone. First day the rain was horizontal. Second day had no rain, but gale force winds and cold temps pushed wind chill below freezing. Last day was moderate, overcast and filled with drunkeness that I'm sure would have prevent any remote piloting.

Did you bring the 'copter and get one there? Did anyone have an issue with you using it?

Why do people get so pissy about HDR? Pictures look great.

I went to Edinburg seven years ago. The one thing I didn't like about it was all the buses everywhere (they don't have a subway). Other than that it was beautiful.

Pictures look oversaturated and overcontrasted and oversharpened.

Especially the greens are really harsh.

Might work in certain contexts, but I prefer letting the motive speak, instead of the post processing.

I spent a 3 day weekend there.

I'd show my pics, but they are actual photos, not scenes from Elder Scrolls 4, so I dont think anybody wants to see them.

Cool photos, but the HDR is way overdone. If a picture needs to rely on a whole bunch of extra effects to make it interesting then you aren't photographing something worth seeing. These look like legitimately good photos of interesting subject matter that have gone through too many Instagram filters.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city. Much more interesting than their other major city, Glasgow.

But the weather in Scotland is something out of a nightmare. I went in summer and my testicles went hiding for the entire time i was there. I think I pulled muscles shivering.

I took the drone with a hard case that was specifically made for a carry on (I think there's only one so far for DJIs that meet that requirement):

Going to JFK, then Edinburgh - no big deal. Coming back to JFK, no big deal, flying from JFK to CLE - they wanted to inspect the drone (lol) - and said that drones are illegal in NYC and they'll have to confiscate it.

They were pulling my leg though, but I got a little pissed haha - I said you're not taking this and selling it on ebay. The drone also got stuck in the airline carry on bin from JFK to CLE. I contacted the vendor and said it got stuck, it was supposed to fit - basically the airline carry on compartment was a little bit smaller than the advertised bin outside.

The pilot got mad at me, they sent a technician to take the bin apart and the pilot said now we'll be late for the Miami flight - thanks. I told him well that's what they get for stealing LeBron for a couple years.

I got super lucky in Edinburgh, out of 10 days, only 1 day did it rain at all - and I used that day as a sleeper.

I actually wore shorts the entire time, it was in the lower 70s. I didn't see anyone else (tourists either) doing that, most in jeans and coats - wow, lol. It was comfortable to me (considering Ohio was still in upper 80s/90s at the time).

Thanks for all the hilarious HDR feedback, I was looking for that, lol...

Nice. did the airline give you any hassle about packing the drone along?.

I recently took a drone alone with me into Europe. Nobody at any of the airports cared, passed through the xray machines without any questions. I was actually so tight on space I had to take a box of the exact carry-on dimension size and put the drone in it, then filling up the extra space as much as I could until the weight limit. I'm surprised that didn't cause questions, carrying a cardboard box all wrapped in packing tape around an airport.

Unfortunately we couldn't fly the drone, too many bugs still in the control software, and have to wait for the next software release. It's okay, though, drone was dropped off with my friend in Europe and he's keeping it there for himself (so not like it was wasted being brought on the plane).

Anyways, yes it's perfectly fine to take drones on planes. Only problem I've read about is if you're flying to some 3rd world country where a customs agent might want to shake you down for payment to line his own pockets. Fly to any western nation and it's legal and you'll have no problems at all.

That is cool! I can't imagine the people in midevil times building that tower or castle way up there. I wonder how they did it? Would love to go to Scotland one day.

Where did you get the Now We Are Free and Brave Heart renditions? :D

I'm gonna share your video on Facebook for my cousin who's in the hospital right now. He has his phone with so he's been on Facebook.

I went in late December and it was damp, windy, and fifty degrees. (Real degrees, not those stupid Centigrade things.)

Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities. We stayed 5 night at an apartment on the Royal Mile a few summers ago and it was fantastic. I'll get back there one of these days and this time instead of continuing our vacation by progressing south towards London we're going to have to progress much further north into Scotland.

I love Edinburgh. I always make sure to stay in a B&B. The hosts served me home made Haggis the first time and me not wanting to be a rude guest tried it. I was actually surprised it was quite good. Nice pics, I like the saturated look on some. Reminds me of Fuji Velvia.

Never been...but the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of those "bucket list" things for me.

If I'm ever allowed to have a passport again...
