Edimax Wireless Adapter problem

I installed this wireless adapter as a part of my new system build.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833315041

Everything works a-ok, except online games. I seem to get 2 to 4 seconds of lag in some games, others give me a "problem with your connection method" message.

I updated my drivers for the wireless card and tried turning off my Service Pack 2 firewall, in addition to turning off the firewall on the PC connected to the wireless router downstairs, but no luck.

Any ideas where I should start looking? Thanks for your help.

(Also - I used to use an Asus Wi-fi adapter with an Asus p4c800-e deluxe mobo and games worked like a charm. I purchased the edimax adapter b/c it appeared to have the exact same characteristics of the Asus adapter. Even the antennae looked the same.)

Specs:

Asus a8n-sli premium
AMD64 FX-55
Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX
2gb Corsair ram
Windows XP Pro SP2
Antec -p180

Surely someone else out there is gaming with a wireless adapter?

Edit: A quick follow up. I think I may have solved my own problem. Right clicking my RAlink icon gave me the choice of using the RALink config utility or the Windows Zero Configuration utility. Choosing to use the RAlink seems to have yielded smooth gameplay online.

I'll going to do a little more testing to make sure everything is working ok.

Edit 2: Yup, that did the trick. For anyone else experiencing intermittent lag with online games using their wireless adapter, I would recommend looking into your Win XP Wireless Configuration Adapter.
