I have an Edimax EW-7128G, and I know that its chipset is by Ralink. I think it's chipset might be either 2500 or 25xx/26xx, but I can't tell for sure.

Is there any way to find out what its particular chipset might be?

Ralink OEM Drivers, http://www.ralinktech.com/rali...e/Support/Windows.html

Thanks. That link was very helpful. The reason I was confused was because I allowed Vista to automatically update the driver, and it downloaded the 25xx/26xx chipset driver instead of the 2500, and because the drivers worked, I was wondering whether some Edimax EW-7128G might be based on newer chipsets.

Straight from the horse's mouth, Edimax itself recently emailed me back saying that the EW-7128g has Ralink RT61 chipset. The interesting thing is that RALink doesn't have a specific RT61. I think what they mean is RT2561 or RT2661. Either way, I tried to install the RT2500 driver, and it didn't even work.

While it is Not uncommon that the End-User Network Vendor do employ "dirty tricks".

I.e. they want to cash on the Good name that a specific model has so they would use the name for another similar product that might be based on a Different chip set.

Last time I bought a EW-7128g (about 6 weeks ago) it was 2500.

As far as I can figure out the new chipset is 256x.

If you look at the OEM Drivers' page - http://www.ralinktech.com/rali...e/Support/Windows.html

Above the drivers for 2500 there are drivers for 256x give them a try.

Here's one of mine:
ral0 at pci0 dev 11 function 0 "Ralink RT2560" rev 0x01: irq 12, address 00:0e:2e:4f:f6:06
ral0: MAC/BBP RT2560 (rev 0x04), RF RT2525

Output is from OpenBSD dmesg.

They use to have one on their site about a year ago, i have that particular driver (should you need it) as you can see from this pic
And regarding the RT2500, you are right, it kind of go silent after installation. Strangely enough though it works hand in hand with the latest driver (V2.2 for XP, in my case) from Edimax and will take uperhand with the configuration utility...duno why...hehe.
