Comes with 512MB removable compactflash card. Player + card for $149. Shipping is another $9.

You can also get just the MP3 Player with no memory for $79. I think 512MB for $70 extra is a good deal though. I read a few reviews for the mp3 player and they seemed somewhat favorable, but they were all pretty old and were based on a much higher price. I have the eDigital Treo 15gb HD based mp3 player and like it a lot. They recently released some new software for it that makes maintaining the songs a bit better, but both are just 1.1 usb and a bit slow on the song uploads.

I've been interested in a solid-state mp3 player for running and think this is a pretty good deal - anyone got any opinions? Anything with better 'bang for the buck' out there?

I've had this model for 6 months and I'm very happy with it. I stick in a 1 GB IBM Microdrive and download as many audio files as I choose before long (international) trips. I then have access to music of my preference during flights, layovers, hotel stays, etc.

The only thing that I don't like is that you can't just drag and drop files to the target drive in your laptop and then move the drive over to the mxp-100. Instead you have to connect to the MP3 player via a USB cable and move files that way. It seems to take much longer, but I don't change my music very often so it works fine for me. The included charger can be used on 120 and 240 volts, so it's a good device for international travel. It also allows you to record speeches (etc.) and play them back later.

What does "bump" mean?

Have you updated to the latest version of Music Explorer? I have read this is to be addressed in a new version of the software. This is huge flaw in a player that otherwise seems like a good buy. I have read a few reviews that claim the USB transfer speed is horrid, so naturally a USB 2.0 or Firewire CF reader would get around this. If there is a way to use an external reader, this sounds like a great candidate to replace my RIO 500. I love my RIO, but the capacity limit on smart media is killing me. HD based players are really not an option for me, I like having solid state devices. No skipping :D

Are there any alternatives out there? Is there a Flash MP3 player thats CF media based that allows files to be added via Windows explorer?

To "bump" a thread means to bring it up to the top of the thread listing in that category by adding a reply (such as this one).

I can confirm that the transfers using their USB connection are painfully slow. I have their 15gb HD Treo player and it does take a while to load it up. Doesn't really bother me all that much, as I don't really load it all that often, and when I do I'm not in all that much of a hurry. But I could see if you are reloading removeable storage often it might be kind of annoying, but as long as you don't mind waiting a little while its not THAT bad.

On the eDigital site, they have a PDF about the new version of Music Explorer (2.0) in relation to the Treo 15gb player. It mentions it includes some utility to re-index the music files on the player in case you transferred them on with software other than Music Explorer. It doesn't mention this new version being available to the MXP 100 though, just on the Treo's, so not sure if it would work on it or not. If it did, it would be much more useable I'd think.

Sorry for being a little off topic, but how do you like the Treo 15. The price and specs on this player look appealing to me, but I have had a hard time finding any reviews (other than the mp3.com) or testimonials from any real users. The size/price ratio is fantastic though.
