Edge vs FF acros VPN accessing Citi dot com site

For a while now I have noticed that when using a VPN in Windows 10 that some sites do not let me access because of an issue the site perceives with my connection. I think it has to do with a shared IP address from the VPN provider, or that the Ip assigned at the tie has a past history of dubious usage. Anyway, I was using the VPN last night and sure enough both the Delta.com and the citi.com websites in Firefox would not allow me to access their websites--let alone my accounts. Then i got an idea and opened Edge and guess what? Edge wasn't a problem in convincing the websites that I was OK. Now, the only Add-On I am using in Firefox and Ublock Origin and for these and many other financial websites I have it turned off. In fact, I even went as far as testing the situation by uninstalling the add-on and rebooting Windows but got the same behavior.

So, what is FF revealing to these websites that Edge is not such that on one hand my setup is not to be trusted but is on the other hand?

I think that it's the other way around. FF is maintaining your privacy, whereas Edge is leaking data that can be used to identify you.

Depending on your settings in FF, it will do all it can to obscure who you are, where you are, and what device you are using. So, don't use it for online banking unless you want to go in and turn off a bunch of the privacy features.

I verified this on a Surface Pro 7 also running Windows 10.
wow that is alot different then not allowing you to go to the site! guess i should have asked what the page said when it didnt load. Maybe this page is only on the surface?

ya i had issues using firefox and banking as well but the page did load just was frustrating.

OK, let me make sure something is clear. This only happens in FF when the VPN connection is established. Without the VPN, FF works just fine for those sites.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing VPN is doing is hiding your IP address. The encrypted VPN is only secure between your computer and the VPN provider's designated server. After that it's decrypted and sent over the internet (well, you're back will be running HTTPS over SSL). Could be the VPN server is choosing a country or province that doesn't match your actual location when using FF???

Weird problem dude. Unless you are travelling, I'd try it without the VPN. Best I can come up with.

OK but not loading and not logging in is two diff issues. Like someone else said FF hides what type of device you are using and the site wants to be all fancy and know you are connecting from a pc tablet iphone etc so they can setup some kinda giant profile to detect hax0r attempts.

A lot of websites don't allow VPN connections, even this forum. Your connections to financial sites are using SSL encryption already, there is no need to use VPN at all.

^ Some people route everything through their VPN so would prefer not to have to revert to not using it every time they visit site XYZ.

I realize you probably weren't trying to be all-inclusive when stating this forum doesn't allow VPN connections, that some sites try to block specific, troublesome ones (I've done this myself on sites where trolls just can't resist coming back for more) but I have no trouble loading this forum with PIA VPN.

I'd wonder if they have some kind of background (passive) multi-factor authentication going on, where using Firefox AND a VPN, exceeds their threshold. I don't recall where at the moment but I vaguely remember in some cases a security prompt was sent to the account holder's email address and had to click an "allow" link to gain access. In other cases it seems like the email was just an alert of new device or something, that could be ignored unless it wasn't you trying to gain access but this didn't keep the page from loading.

Anyway I would have updated Firefox if not a recent version, loaded it in safe mode to try, then try disabling any blocking features/add-ons except an add-on to spoof the Edge useragent reported to their site.

Or just not use Firefox for that. Day to day I run a highly tweaked older version of Firefox, that blocks as much as possible (even massive amounts of page elements on cluttered sites like Amazon), but more and more often I find that I have to fire up a different browser to make some sites usable... or still use FF but block a script that is putting up a wall, detecting that I'm blocking their ads and other scripts, lol.
