Edge takes top spot in malware blocking test.....again!

Looks like Microsoft's SmartScreen technology has improved even more compared to the version used in 2016 with Microsoft Edge version 38 which also took top honors that year.

For their 2017 test, Edge automatically blocked 92% of all in-browser credential phishing attempts and stymied 100% of all SEM attacks..

Chrome came in second by blocking 74% of all phishing attacks, and 88% of SEM, and Firefox came in third with 61% of all phishing attacks and 70% of all SEM.

I believe this test was done using the Creators Spring update, which was a big improvement for Microsoft Edge over the previous Anniversary update in terms of security. The Creators fall update improves security even more, and adds some nice performance features as well.

No idea why more people aren't using Edge. It really is a great browser, and much better than Chrome in my experience.
 
Because it says Microsoft on it and it's more fun to keep regurgitating the same Microsoft sentiments people have been making for 20 years. Yet you'll still find many of them extolling Firefox's virtues (or one of it's derivatives) despite Firefox consistently taking the bottom spot of the top 3 when it comes to security.

I can never understand the popularity of Firefox on these forums. Sure, it's a very customizable browser I suppose, but Firefox has consistently been at the back end of browser technology when it comes to performance, stability and security for several years now, mostly in the name of preserving compatibility.

Firefox Quantum was sorely needed to make Firefox relevant again. Regarding Edge though, I am very pleased with the progress that Microsoft has been making with the browser, especially considering that updates for it are tied to Windows updates.
 
I don't care if MS sent me a fruit basket each time I used it the interface sucks and I hate using it. I'll use FF any day of the week over the now crippled IE or edge.

I don't care what browser you use, but I just find it interesting that you and perhaps many of the Firefox diehards value aesthetics over what I call the "meat and potatoes" of a browser, that being security, performance and stability.
 
This is basically just a test of SmartScreen/Google SafeBrowsing. It's odd that Firefox does not preform equally as well as Google considering they're both using the same lists. Chrome may be doing some checking of downloaded files that Firefox does not? I forgot the implementation differences. I believe Firefox did upgrade to the latest SafeBrowsing protocol version (v4) in Firefox 56.

I have hardware and software based protection on my network so all traffic is filtered irrespective of the browser used. I find edge's interface to be clumsy at best just like chrome's but I do keep both of them up to date including bookmarks while I use quantum as my default browse.

Software can be preference based and I require certain aspects from a browser that only IE and FF deliver such as the bookmarks and top based menu system just like MS Office and every other software package uses.. MS can keep putting lipstick on their edge pig but I won't have it.😀
