He wants to be released, and says he wants to go to Philly or Dallas. Either team would be stupid to take him, he hasn't done anything since 2000. Although Philly has already signed two injury-prone, washed up vets....

But regardless, he said he used Stephen Davis as a gauge for his market value, cuz they came into the league at the same time, and have similar running styles...is he out of his mind??? George ran for 1031 yards last year, 3.3 ypc, and only 5 TD's. Davis had 1444 yards, 4.5 ypc, and 8 TD's.

If he could go to a team like the two he mentioned and get 75-80% of the carries instead of carrying such a huge load from the backfield, I think he'd stay healthier and do much better.
He's just being overused in Tenn., and that's hurt him a lot these past few years. I still like the guy, I think he could rush for 1800 easily at some point before he retires.

Titans fan chiming in here...

I've been wanting them to get rid of Eddie for a couple of years now. It's time for some new blood. However, this guy just does NOT fumble the ball and that's an extremely rare thing. Ask any Giants fan. ;) The last fumble I remember of Eddie's was one where he got knocked out on the play and they still had to review the play because he fell on top of the ball and looked like he was still subconsciously holding it. :p

His numbers are also somewhat deceiving. He sucks really badly at the beginning of every season but turns it on more and more as each game goes by. Whichever team he goes to I wish him the best... but if it's Philly or Dallas I hope they have 0-16 records in the process. :p

See, he *could* fit into either Philly or Dallas' system. He could fill Staley's lost role of the 3rd member of Philly's back by committee, or he could help out Julius Jones' transition to the NFL in Dallas. Problem is, he isn't gonna want that, he's gonna want to be the big time starter, and he's gonna want to be paid like it.

Eddie George in Dallas? I love it! You're right in that he's not what he used to be, but he's hardly washed up like our former number 22. He's still fairly young and with a good O line he could tear it up. I'm still pissed we didn't sign Deuce - I just don't know if Julius is the future like Parcells is predicting.

I wouldn't doubt Parcell's ability to select running backs. Don't forget how much sh!t he took for choosing Curtis Martin as the Jets' back of the future, and look where he ended up. I wouldn't mind having him in Dallas(I am a Cowboys fan if you've forgotten), but not as the premier back, maybe to split carries with Jones(as their styles are very different) until Jones is mature enough to handle all the load himself. George won't want that though...he'll want to get 25+ carries a game and get paid like a guy with 10K yards.

Granted, Eddie is not the same runner he once was -- the 2700+ carries have obviously taken a toll on him. That said, he's a solid back that can be used in a 'grind it out' kind of offense, he never fumbles, he's durable as a mack truck, and he's a solid guy on and off the field. He's the kind of guy you want your rookies to learn from, he's the kind of guy that works hard and doesn't have a big mouth -- he lets his play do the talking. I think he'd be a great addition to Dallas or to Philly......

I don't fault the Titans for waiving him, he just isn't worth 4.5 million per year, but if I was the Cowboys, Raiders, Bucs or Eagles GM, I'd be on the horn with his agent right about now.

Didnt George initially accept a 50% reduction in pay to STAY with the Titans? I doubt any of you would be so generous with your jobs. Even then the Titans didn't want to pay George so off he goes.

Yea that's true (Martin). And yea, I remember you're a Dallas fan. BTW, he did officially get released.

Eddie George is a Cowboy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well close to it......every news station in Dallas is basically reporting they've come to terms although ESPN has not said anything about it yet. This will be exciting - I don't trust Jones to fully carry the load as a rookie. We were stupid as hell to pass on Stephen Davis, who said he wanted to be a Cowboy last season and nothing else, (took them to a Super Bowl) we passed on Deuce, we'd be stupid to pass on George.

If he signs for 1.5 mil for 1 year, which was exactly the same deal the Titans were offering, then I call shenanigans on Eddie George wanting to "remain a Titan", as he stated repeatedly. However, I can understand his decision if it's a 2-year deal, or a 1-year deal for more than 1.5 mil.

eh, 1.5 mil isn't too bad. I certainly wouldn't have accepted the 2.5mil that he was originally asking for. I still would rather have Jones as my starter, but this at least keeps him out of Philly's hands.

You made that rhyme, just in time.

Skins have one thing going for them....Gibbs. but....

Shawn Springs is no Champ Bailey.
Clinton Portis won't be the same with your pathetic excuse for an o-line.
Ramsey is better than Brunell. this is one place Gibb's is falling short.

The skins haven't learned yet that you don't throw together a bunch of free agents and build a championship team. Hasn't worked for them yet, and it won't this year either.

Consider this when you compare the stats of Stephen Davis and Eddie George: Davis was running behind a MUCH better line than George.
Makes a big difference. I'm sure the Tuna took that into consideration.

Heh, that's because Tiki isn't an every-down runner. He's an amazing running back for his size, but he's too small to to carry 20-30 times per game. Plus, you can't ask him to pound down the middle. Btw, George most likely will end up in Dallas and will have a pretty good season behind their o-line.
