Alvarez Contract Details Emerge; UFC Offers Quick Title Shot & PPV Cut
I realize that Alvarez's contract will be inflated due to the negotiation competition from Bellator, but I wonder how much the other fighters that can negotiate a portion of the PPV get.
Considering that the UFC averages somewhere around 400k PPV buys per event (although the last two Henderson vs Edgar PPV's averaged about 200k buys).... That's a lot of money! The UFC contract proposed to Alvarez outlines the promotions intent to give him an immediate title shot in March against lightweight champion Benson Henderson and on top of that offers him a cut of the companys pay-per-view profits. This alone would coax most fighters to sign the dotted line and enter into the biggest promotion on the planet (UFC), but it gets even better from here
The contract explained that when Alvarez fights on a UFC PPV broadcast he will be given $1 for each buy between 200,000 and 400,000 buys, $2 per buy between 400,000 and 600,000 buys, and $2.50 per buy over 600,000 buys. Not too shabby for a fighter that has never stepped foot inside the UFC octagon. But the perks dont stop there
The eight-fight deal also states that Alvarez would start at $70,000 just to fight with another $70,000 forked over for a win. From there the contact raises in $5,000 increments with each win Alvarez obtains inside the octagon. The money will continue to go up until it tops out at a guaranteed $210,000 for a win. Alvarez would also be guaranteed a $250,000 signing bonus, which he would receive in two installments of $85,000 and one of $80,000. And thats not all!
The UFC has also thrown Alvarez a guaranteed fight on a UFC on FOX card and three appearances as a commentator at UFC events.
