Hi everyone. This is my first post so forgive my ignorance. Please help!
I have been experiencing irritating shut downs (dreaded blue screen) USB issues, harddrive detection issues amongst many others. I would like to replace my motherboard (ECS P4VXASD2+ Release 03/10/2003) with an ASUS 4P800E Deluxe Intel Socket 478 Motherboard.
I hope to use my existing P4 2.53 GHz 533MHz FSB cpu.
I would like to keep all my existing hardrives, floppy etc.
Would my components below be compatible (especially my P4 and radeon 9500 pro video card)with the new ASUS mobo and would the new mobo fit my tower (ATX form factor below if this helps (existing mobo).
Many thanks for your help.

My specs are as follows:

Yes. You should have no problems. But you may have to reinstall windows with the new board. I always format, but some folks get by without it.

All you say looks like what you actually need to replace is the wimpy power supply, not the mainboard. I'd do that first.

O1die and Peter.

Thanks guys for such a speedy and welcomed reply.
What Power upgrade do you think would be advisable with the new ASUS? I have heard a few conflicting things about the ASUS 4P800E but in general it seems like a well rounded stable mobo.

Would you guys suggest another mobo instead ?

I used Sandra 2005 Pro to check my present system and it maintains the system mainbloard temp is too high( 52 celcius ). Would additional fans help. Is thermal grease (Mad Dog Artic Silver Thermal Compound) recommended between heatsink and cpu? Ive read a few forums where they mention there is no need with newer cpus and heatsinks?

Appreciate your input (forgive the drab pun).

Looks good, you will probably want a new PSU, ANTEC or ENERMAX are good selections, a 350 would do but a 400 would be recommended if you ever want to get newer video cards or more hard drives.

Congratulations on getting rid of the ECS, they are smelly turd mobos.

I like sparkle and antec. Sparkle is one of the best values and most stable you can buy.

Thanks for the info guys. The new HT tech on newer P4 would not hinder or negate the compatibility of my Pentium 4 2.53 GHx 533 FSB chip on the ASUS ?
I am a little concerned about frying my chip too.

Cheers

J.u.s.t. exchange the PSU, improve system ventilation, and yes of course do put thermally conductive material inbetween CPU and heatsink. Fix the identified problems first. Oh, and ignore the bullsh*t parrots, no matter how "radicl" they might get ...
