There's a lot of breath being held in anticipation of the nForce3 250. A lot of people are waiting for Socket 939. AnandTech, reporting from CES last month, expressed surprise that the first nForce3 250 boards shown were Socket 754 boards. We've heard nothing of nForce3 250 since then, which makes me wonder if the mobo manufacturers haven't decided to wait for Socket 939 after all.
We've yet to see a reliable SiS 755 board. According to "the world's largest motherboard manufacturer," the dog ate their homework on that.
At this point, for the sake of getting some work done, an $83 (after rebate) board looks like a cheap rental. It should last at least as long as it takes the dust to settle after the current round of vaporware actually arrives.
