Up until this point I've been using a seperate sound card. I just tried using the onboard sound and it doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I "searched" for ecs no sound problems but didn't find anything on these boards. Thanks.

First thing to do is check and see if the sound is enabled in your BIOS. If it isn't then do it :p
Enter Windows and see if it sees your heardware change.
Make sure your speaker jack is in the correct connection. ( I saw someone inadvertently do this)

Another possibilty is since you haven't used the on-board sound before, You haven't installed the drivers for it.

Ok. Checked bios. It says Sound AC '97 - Enabled. Checked sound under start>control panel>settings>system>sounds has the SIS 7012 audio driver. And checked the sound plug, it's plugged in the right spot. I even switched it around, just to make sure, still no sound.

Any other ideas? Under the sound properties, it tells me the device is working properly, but there's something messed up here...

Thanks again

Are you using powered speakers?

The vol of sound is pretty low. Try increasing the vol of your speakers...

Hmmm. There is no volumn control on the speakers themselves. I've got the sound turned all the way up, with the windows volumn control. And the speakers don't have a power cord, just the cord you plug into the sound jack. They worked fine with the modem/sound card I was using.

Any other suggestions?

It seems you don't have powered speakers... hence no external amplifier...
Actually the output levels of the sound from the mobo is pretty low...
try borrowing a set of powered speakers(they usually have an amplifier) from a friend... or better If you have a receiver try connecting the mobo o/p to the receiver...

Ok, so I'll try and find some external power speakers. Shouldn't be too hard, I'll "borrow" some from work. Thanks guys.
