I have P3 700 on asus CUSL2 mobo and want to upgrade.
Being on limited budget I almost decided on P3 1G for $245.00 (CAD).
But then I found this mobo ECS P6S5AT (SIS 635 T chipset supports
tulatins and DDR ) for $65.00.
If I buy that mobo plus Celeron 1.2G for $180.00 I'll spend
the same money and I may have shoot at 1600 mhz.
Now does anybody have ECS P6S5AT ,will it overclock ( can I adjust
Vcore and fsb), how good it is overall?
Secondly which celeron to get I think should be Malay but I need
more info.

thanks.

What series is your Pent III 700, is it a E series or EB? Cause you might be able to overclock it. If not, how about Celeron II 1.1 or 1 instead, you board is compatable according to Asus's web site.

tech reference.

You have great board there, i wouldn't invest too much in cpu, put towards your next mega machine, etc...

Also, you will be able to overclock those Celerons too.

Just my 2 US cents.

Chances of pushing C-1200T to 1600 without hardcore cooling are pretty slim.
Check CPU database on overclockers.com. Most ppl who managed to reach 1600
used watercooling.

But it looks like you have enough money to go AMD.
ECS K7S5A is $60, Athlon 1.0 is $70 and 256MB of PC2100 DDR memory is $60.
K7S5A also accepts regular SDRAM so you can use what you got.
Mobo+CPU will set you back $130 which is less than C-1200T alone.

Thats US dollars. And you can overclock it somewhat without spending more money.

Make sure you have a good PSU. Check amdmb.com ECS forum for recommendations.
