I recently picked up a new SATA disk, and replaced my boot PATA drive with it.
I have another PATA drive in the system as a data drive.

The SATA drive is attached as (what I think is called) SATA 1.

My PATA devices our on my secondary IDE channael, with my DVD drive as master and my PATA harddisk as slave.
There are NO devices attached to my primary IDE channel.

From a cold start up, the system correctly boots off the SATA disk and right into windows.
All PATA disks work correctly.

If I do a restart from windows, the system will start to load ( i think) and hang before the XP loading screen... the harddisk light stuck on. There is no further activity.

I turn the machine off, and restart and it's fine.

Suggestions?

Could be an MBR issue on the PATA drive. Zero write another PATA drive and put it as the MASTER on the primary IDE channel. Make sure you set the partition on the PATA as a LOGICAL drive. Avoid the use of a Primary partition unless you're going to boot with that partition.
