Messing with a new 250 Gb Seagate that IDs fine, but XP doesn't like (see?) so I am looking on the ECS website and one of the bios updates talks up Seagate issues, but they say to check the revision printed on the motherboard, and show two choices 1.0a and 1.0b, and mine is 1.0 nothing. Anybody else already sort through this?

Am I just reading the ECS site wrong and its bios revision 1.0a and 1.0b?

or

Is it two different MB revisions each with a bios update?

My current bios is 8/31/04.

Looked more, checked dates in both of the ECS web sites downloads, they are around a year older than what I have installed now, 1.0e 8/31/04. Its a Phoenix bios for the nforce2, but I am thinking less and less its a bios issue.

Thanks, I know I sorted this out once before, but couldn't remember the details. ;)

Ahah, I was using the ECS USA site, not the .tw, and it isn't nearly as complete. USA site doesn't have the U, but kept the two revisions language which is what confused me.

I agree, doesn't seem to be a bios issue, more a seagate, Kroll OnTrack, XP thing. Day 4 of the still not booting new 250 GB seagate saga continues in the general tech forum.

I am betting this next round of format and copy will work with perhaps some XP install CD repairs.

Fix was I had to manually set drive mode in the bios to LARGE, not the autodected CHS or the seagate suggestted LBA, and it basically works fine.
