ECS N2U400-A Mainboard not powering

Hi Guys,

I have a ECS N2U400-A Mainboard with AMD Athlon 2800. Last week suddenly it stopped working; checked the PUS and power supply fan was not working.So I bought a new power supply and tried powering up.Now the power supply is working and the cpu fan is also working but the motherboard is not powering up. The old power supply had 20 pin connector; the new psu has 24 pin which I think should not be a problem. I connected the right 20 pins by looking at the old connector cable.

Can you guys please help me in finding out if the mobo is bad or what else could be wrong.
I appreciate for all your help.

motherboard is dead avoid ecs motherboards if you can in general.

You could be right be about motherboard. It lasted for 8 yrs so cant complain..

Very easy to spot if this is your problem. If this is in fact your issue, consider it your lucky day. I have a working Epox 8RDA (Nforce2) that you can have for the price of shipping. It appears to be a suitable replacement for your dead ECS board based on the fact that it is also an Nforce2 chipset.

I have that board.There is a 4 pin socket on the motherboard that HAS to have power from the power supply or it will not boot.
The ECS N2u400 came out around 2004,I have had one since 2005 with a XP3200 processor and 1GB memory. It is my backup still runs well. The only problem I have had with it is I couldn't find any memory to work right at 2GB, 1GB works fine. It is fine for surfing the internet and word processing but slow on converting avi files to dvd.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I checked the capacitors and they look good; no buldging tops or leaking electrolyes. So the next is could the processor be bad ..

Microcenter is having a deal - 50$ off on intel cpu and motherboard combo. Since my system was old, I thought why not just upgrade it. So I got i5-2500k and a motherboard.

hotlynx16 - I had power cables connected; both 20 pin and 4 pin.

WT - As I said above, if the cpu is bad then no option otherwise I could keep it that as a backup system.

Hey, I also have CPUs that you can have as well. I have a LOT of hardware lying around, so let me know if you want a chip to test further.
