ECS Motherboard P4VXMS Problems

I'm trying to install my new ECS P4VXMS motherboard w/ Pentium 4 1.5 ghz CPU already mounted on it. I seem to have no problems except one, whenever I boot the computer nothing comes up on the screen...but if I wait 5 minutes then hit the reset button it'll run fine. Secondly and more importantly...after about 3 - 4 minutes or whenever I try to install something or run any kind of operation, the computer will freeze...usually before Windows even loads...anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
All the components in my computer are the same except for hte motherboard / cpu / RAM, and the RAM checks out ok.
