Got a little problem, hoping someone can help.

My systemboard, an ECS-K7VMA, will not recognize any ram memory above 256, works fine with only 256. When I installed a second stick of 256 PC133 sdram I got the blue screen of death, crashes, etc etc!!! Have done extensive checks and diagnostics in both Win98, 2000 and DOS but cannot find the fault. I also swapped the 2 strips of ram for a single 512 strip and the system still failed. The memory strips were checked in another PC and ran at 133. Updated VIA4-1 driver to v4.35 did not help. I concluded that there is fault in the MoBo. Both ECS and VIA are strangely silent on my support requests. I am hoping that just maybe someone has ran into the same snag and can advise me.
To make this system work I had to reset the BIOS to run the DRAM CLK at 100 vs 133 and set the SDRAM Cycle Length to 3 vs 2 (CAS Latency)
System setup:
- ECS-K7VMA MoBo e/w K7 AMD 1ghz, Award BIOS v1.0a 02/21/2001, 512mb Azen PC133 SDRAM, onboard video and sound
- Win98SE:(
