ECS L7VMM3 - CPU Vcore power connector

I have recently bought a ECS L7VMM3 with 3100+ CPU on board. This motherboard has a CPU Vcore power connector which other AMD motherboard doesn't have. Does it mean that I have to use a power supply which comes with a CPU Vcore power plug otherwise it won't work? Or I can still use ordinary power supply without a CPU Vcore power plug? I haven't bought a case yet.

I would appreciate any input which can help me solve this puzzle.

It's always better to use the 12 volt 4 pin square connector. Most newer cases and power supplies come with them, or you can buy an adapter that works with any of the power supplie's 4 pin connectors for $3. Unless you get a premium case made by antec or enermax, I would upgrade the power supply anyway. Buyextremegear.com used to carry a turbolink 420 watt for about $25. But if you plan to use a sata hardrive, be sure the power supply has a sata connector. Only some of the new ones come with it.

Yes, you need to have it. Many boards (including this particular one) drive the CPU circuitry exclusively from that additional power connector.

Thank you very much o1die and Peter for your reply. I will keep that information in mind when selecting a case and power supply for the motherboard.
