ECS L4S5MG w/ SIS650 GOOD or BAD?

Is ECS L4S5MG is a good or bad mobo? Does anyone had a problem with that board?
It is a board with SIS 650 & SIS 961 chipset with DDR memory and intergrated video card. Never see any review about this board. But because it had Video On board so no need to buy another VGA card. I don't use many 3D aplication. Can some give opinion or have any experience with this board?

yeah i think sound onboard is good. But how about VGA onboard? Is that good?
There is no descripcion about VGA onboard at ECS website.
And what is the different between SIS 645 with SIS 650.

The 650 has onboard video, where as the 645 does not.

I don't know how the video is with the SiS 650, but with my SiS730s the video is great! Counterstrike (A popular 3D game) is playable on this rig..hovers around 30fps -but I don't recommend it for die hard gamers. The video is ideal for basic 2D internet / office / DVD / mpeg use. SiS also features DVD hardware accelration for smooth playblack. I tried it, and it looks great!

It all depends on what you plan to use the integrated video for.

Biggest problem I'v had with the ECS P4 boards in general is the really bad plastic CPU fan bracket they usualy have bent or broken pins. other than that they work ok.

It's prolly just a duplicate of P4S5A, except being mATX, and using SiS 650. I wouldn't hesiate to recommend it for someone needed Integrated VIdeo for the P4, but can't wait for 845GL. It's video performance, is somewhat in the air. Some places say it's close to the nForce 420-D's performance, but I honestly can't believe that a chipset with signficantly less bandwidth (420-D will have a full 2.1GB/ps while 650 will at best have only 200MB/ps or less because the P4's 3,2GB/ps fsb will eat up most of 650's 2.7GB/ps.

i just bought thie board. i found that it is exactly the same layout as the shuttle spacewalker ms51n but costs $16 less at newegg (newegg had both with pictures).

i hope its good. from what i read the 650 is just as fast as the very fast 645 chipset, but with sis 315 integrated (gf2 mx200 class apparently)

That is because Shuttle have most of their stuff manufactured by Elitegroup/PC-Chips, some boards designed by them, and some other boards are just rebadged ECS/PC-Chips stuff.

Given the latters' experience in making all-in-ones and their close proximity to SiS themselves, this isn't a bad thing at all.

The only odd thing about the ECS L... series boards is their connector layout, with the USB/LAN block moved over from their usual spot to the lower end of the connector block. Make sure your case fits the face plate you get with the board, else you'll have a problem fitting the board in.

i just got my board in from newegg today. well.. i dont have the cpu ram case or drives to go with it yet, but well it smells nice. haha

Oh, yes, stink they do. Literally, not as a product. My K7S5A here is a week old now, and it's slowly getting better. I wonder whether ECS boards are so cheap because they dispose of a tiny amount of some other company's chemical wastes in each package? 🙂

LOL, Peter. Yes, ECS boards are VERY, uh, fragrant. For those of you into huffing and can't find aerosol cans lying around, ECS motherboards can almost give you a quick fix.

hans007 said he just got one, so maybe he can verify... sometimes ECS packages a new plate with the motherboard. I know that every K7S5A I've seen came with a new one, presumably because the onboard LAN may not work with what's normally with cases. Does this board come with one? I went to Newegg because sometimes their picture shows the accessories included, but they no longer list this board

The SiS 650 has better video than 730, same as 740. I think it's their 315 versus 305 video chipset. As hans007 says, Geforce2 MX200 class performance.

yea i have my l4s5mg here. the board is exactly the same board as the shuttle MS 51N btw. also it comes with a special extra plate. I'm still waiting to get my case and clips for my heatsink though so i havent quite installed it yet.

LOL Peter!!

I de-stinkified my K7S5a accidently by leaving it out on the bench for a week whilst waiting for the DDR to turn up at the local shop 😉 - I wouldn`t really recommend spraying Chanel No5 or the like on a whiffy motherboard but after having a noseful of the latest batch, I can sympathise that the aroma of "midnight in Paris" wafting through the exhaust fan is preferable to "Au de Biohazard" 😉

I remember having to begrudgingly fit a PC-Chips 810MLR into a penny pinching collegue`s machine and that didn`t smell at all - though it stunk in a different way 🙁

That"s "Eau" please 🙂 the 810LMRs I used did stink to the nose, but not to the user. With those
all-in-ones, you must remember it's about low budget, so don't expect any kind of
performance miracle. And within its constraints, 810LMR works pretty well.

With the appearance of DDR RAM to chipset integrated VGA, 3D performance has become a lot
better though - even more so because SiS use a substantially better 3D engine now too. Their
650 and 740 chipsets perform quite well.
