ECS KT600-A SATA Headaches

Can the VT8237 RAID controller boot from a single SATA drive? When I load the 3rd party RAID driver during XP installation it recognizes the drive, then gives me a message that it can't install XP to this partition. I've installed XP on an IDE drive, but its old and slow - I'd rather have XP on the faster drive. I was able to partition and format the SATA drive (a Samsung 160 gb), but not able to boot off of it.

Accessing the VT8237 RAID BIOS during startup shows the drive as present/functioning, but I'm unable to select any setup options (obviously it wants more than 1 drive to set up any kind of RAID).

I've flashed the KT600-A to the latest BIOS (rev F) - any other suggestions?

Thanks!
Clayton

Doesn't the BIOS let you put the SATA controller into IDE mode? If I recall correctly, you can do that on this board.

I could not find any such option. Are you referring to the VT8237 RAID BIOS? All this does it display a list of RAID creation options, all of which are unavailable. It also gives a status report on my drive. If its in the main Phoenix BIOS, I haven't been able to locate any similar option. Thanks for your advice - I'll keep looking.

Can I ask what your set-up is?

I have this board, and I can't get it to post. I think it's the fan, but I made sure I bought one that was fast enough (thermaltake TR2-M2 set on high), but still nothing. It gets as far as making my monitor turn on, then it powers itself down.

Here's "my" setup:

VGA CHAINTECH| VOLARI V3 SLV3-128
DDRAM 512M|PC-2700 990962 MUSHKIN R
CPU AMD|2500 /333 ATHLON XP BARTON
MB KT600-A ECS KT600 ATX 462 RT
CPU FAN AMD/INT ZALMAN CNPS3100+ RT
HD 160GB|SAMSUNG SP1614C

This was a system I built for a friend in another state, so I no longer have access to it. I recall having the same problem when first installing it - I think it was due to the cpu fan speed not being recognized. I don't exactly recall how I resolved the problem - maybe try a different fan or make sure you're using the correct fan jack?
