ECS KN1 Extreme overclocking with SATA drives?

Is anybody overclocking this mobo with SATA drives? Which SATA ports are you using? I read posts about SATA ports 1&2 tracking the HT or FSB clock whereas ports 3&4 are locked to a specific frequency regardless of overclocking.

Unfortunately I read all this after putting the system together on ports1&2. I tried moving my 2 drives to ports 3&4, changing RAID0 array in BIOS but the system will not boot. I probably need to move to 3&4 then reinstall XP. I haven't installed much on the system yet so reinstall is still easy as this point.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Wow, I have to change my signature now. ;)

I have a drive each on port 1 and 2 and no ill effects, the appear to be locked. I dont think they were with the older BIOS's though, make sure you update. 1.1b is working pretty well for me.

I'm running v1.1d BIOS. According to ECS it "Improve SATA HDD function" so I flashed it. Running great so far.

I'm just starting to overclock this board. The A64 OC thread here on AT is nice and Gogar's Optimizer. Right now I'm at 10xCPU, 4x220HTT, 200Mem to get 2.2GHz but I know this Venice core is good for 2.6GHz especially with the Aquagate. Even though I set 200Mem in BIOS, nVidiaMonitor and CPU-Z still show the memory at 220 or CPU/10. I can't find a way to force FSB:DRAM ratio in BIOS.

BTW, what freq do you have your Corsair VS running at? If I can 't keep this Value RAM locked close to 200, then I probably need to get better RAM.

Thanks.

The memory settings in the bios are not locks, but rather ratios. Assuming you continue to use the 10x cpu multiplyer, your ram speed will be as follows:

200 = cpu/10
166 = cpu/13
133 = cpu/16
100 = cpu/20

If you want to reach 2.6ghz, you would want to use the 166 setting, which would convineinetly set your memory at 200mhz. 2600/13 = 200

Also, if you used a 9.5x multi, your memory would run at cpu/12 with the 166 setting. If you set your fsb to 274, that would give you 2.6 ghz and your memory would run at 217mhz. If you can get it stable that would probably be your best bet.

As for my ram, I can't get it stable over ~210. I Wish i could get mine to run at 220 :) How high can you raise the fsb on your board? Mine wont do much more than about 280

Use the "auto" setting for memory for speeds under 200. My kv2 lite won't post in manual when overclocking, but works fine in auto when running the memory at less than 200. I couldn't go higher than 220, no matter what settings I used. These ecs boards just aren't designed for serious overclocking.

I would avoid using the auto settings, the board seems to work fine when configured properly.
