The onboard sound will work with the right driver. Mine failed just as I sold it to someone, and I had to install a separate soundcard for him. It's a flaky motherboard with a flaky bios. That's the problem.

I used the drivers that came on the CD with the mainboard and I tried to dl new ones from ECS but they were not smart enough to realize that people need complete installs so I get a prompt for a VIA sys file which exists on some CD that I dont have.

I have V6.0A

Next to the rear audio plugs, there is an onboard header for case front audio connectors. To use the rear plugs, you need to put jumpers across "Right"-"Right return" and "Left-"Left return".

Peter is absolutely right. I removed those jumpers to connect front sound ports on a different case, and forgot all about them. They should be visible in the manual. They are located next to the sound ports for your speakers at the back of the board, near the middle.

Thanks Pete,

I'll have to check it out. ECS has been kind enough to make me wait may days without even a conformation that I sent in a support request. Still haven't got anyhthing.

Pete,

No dice man, I went to my friends house and looked at it, pins 5-6 and 9-10 are shorted.

According to page 25 of the pdf file downloaded for v5.1
http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/manual_k7v.html

pin
5 AUD_FPOUT_R Right Channel Audio signal to Front Panel
6 AUD_RET_R Right Channel Audio signal to Return from Front Panel
9 AUD_FPOUT_L Left Channel Audio signal to Front Panel
10 AUD_RET_L Left Channel Audio
