After hearing from my local distributor that he has a shipment of 500 arriving on Friday, I was pleased to see the S6A at the top of the page on ECS' USA site. Check it out for the final specs. This is looking like a real beauty!

The K7S6A comes with our Magic Setting 1V feature that allows the CPU frequency and CPU core voltage to be adjusted via the BIOS. Vcore adjustment can be done between 1.1v-1.85v in 0.025v increments, with a multiplier of between x5 and x12.5 (in 0.5 increments).

Well, let's see:
  • SiS 745 (reportedly incorporating a memory controller superior to KT266A, even with PC2100 modules)
  • Official PC2700 (DDR333) Support
  • 3 DIMMs (1.5GB Max)
  • FSB, vCore, and Multiplier Adjustments

To be blunt, it's a supercharged K7S5A. Rock solid SiS stability without the hassles of VIA. Need I say more?

So what are you saying we dont need to go thru all the pain to unlock our XPs to adjust multiplier with this board? And about vcore adjustment--why dont they make a board that will let us adjust XP vcore over 1.85 w/o the need to do actual modification to the board itself...

I can't wait for this board! I hope that it's as inexpensive as the 5SA. Does the 6SA have on board LAN? It's not on Pricewatch yet. :(

Well considering the fact that ECS mobos are usually always cheap and that the K7S5A was around 60 was it was released, I'd say somewhere to 70-80 if i had to take a guess.

Edit: I think the only downside to this board in terms of specifications is that it supports 1.5 gigs of ram compared to the 3-4gigs that most KT266 boards support. I think 1.5 gigs is enough for the time being anway for most users.

What's so good about this board?

The ECS K7S6A (SiS 745 chipset) is supposed to be a supercharged ECS K7S5A (SiS 735). Personally, I'm looking forward to this board, considering how well the K7S5A performed when it first debuted, as well as the price. Unfortunately ECS might be the only supplier. I'd like to be able to choose between other mainboard manufacturers like Epox or ASUS for a SiS 745 based board.

However, I'm not going to jump on this yet until I see other boards come out. As far as PC2100/2700 goes for 266MHz FSB Athlons boards, I think we've seen the limits of performance. I'll wait and see to make a final judgement.

LOL funniest thing i've ever heard. ECS makes terribly unstable boards. The K7S5A had DESIGN flaws that would cause memory errors. People have to mod their boards to fix the problem. Don't believe me? OCWorkBench check out their forums. This is the place to go for ECS support.

You can't expect a motherboard that cheap to be without problems. It's common sense.

That's not True, only some boards had this problem & it was only when used with a 1.4ghz Athlon, later revisions, the one with an XP sticker on both sides on the socket didnt have that problem, If you want to talk about Bad design flaws you only need look at Via.

Budman: Is ECS replacing everyone's board that had the problems? I don't believe so. No motherboard/chipset is without its flaws. AMD/Intel chipsets usually have the least problems but often have less features and slower performance.

No Insane3D unfortunately it doesnt have that. :(

But with true DDR333 running 166mhz should be enough.:)

Enough for the average user.;) but you dont fall into that category.:D

Edit, Btw Insane3D did you order that Soyo board from newegg yet?

anyone else remember when intel chipsets had the best performance? the i850 is still pretty damn fast, and its a year+. took the 760 a long time to get passed as well. if intel wasn't playing politics i'm sure the i845 would be damn fast to boot. stupid rambus politics.

I'm not so sure RAMBUS effected the developement of the i845. One of the major things the P4 relies on is its large 400MHz FSB. SDRAM limits that FSB atleast 66%.

Anyways, the new ECS board looks pretty sweet, can't wait to see how it performs.

I definitely can?t wait for this board. In fact I was about to order the K7S5A from newegg for $57. I debated it for hours and decided to hold off. This is the news I was looking for. If I don?t decide to stick with Intel, this will be my next system (wont do via, damn 4in1 drivers drove me nuts on my brothers MSI K7T Turbo Rev2).

I will probably buy this board right after the first bios revision, just to be on the safe side (usually after the 3rd week).
