I saw this review over on a Romanian hardware site...apparently ECS is releasing a new K7S5A board...the K7S5A2. It doesn't ship with multiplier adjustment, but there is a table silkscreened on the board showing how to change the multiplier with jumpers....check it out! One weird thing is that is doesn't look like the origianl K7S5A...it's PCB is that Abit tan color and the AMR slot is moved to the bottom of the board.

ECS K7S5A2 Review

"The interesting part of this motherboard test is that when I finished the test session I took the motherboard out of the case and I took one more look at the motherboard layout. I discovered on the board surface a little table with multiplier settings which were stated to be done by a group of jumper on board. I didn't find these jumpers but instead I found several other jumpers with apparently no role. I don't know why that table is printed on board but for a moment I thought I am so stupid that I didn't see the multiplier jumpers from the first time and the board is more feature rich than I imagined. Take a look to the picture in the left to see how the onboard table looks like. Quite plausible, isn't it :)"

Things tha make you go....hmmmmm. ;)

Edit: I was posting this when someone else posted something similar, so I am going to leave it.

The colour of the pcb is probably because PcChips is making the board, the K7S5A pcchips clone M830LR is of that same colour.

Once people start posting "there's problems with XXX product" they start posting it in other threads. Then more people read it and post it, because it *must* be true if SO MANY people claim there's a problem! and it becomes a vicious cycle.

AFAIK 1 or perhaps a few people have been unable to get their floppy drive to work in win2k. Rightly or wrongly (people have troubles with floppies all the time... wacky cables, bios settings, etc.) they blame it on the mobo.

that's funny because i JUST put together a K7S5A upgrade yesterday....using pc66 SDR@100 ultra timings CAS2, GF2 MX-200, onboard sound & ethernet, 3 IDE devices, and a floppy drive...

the floppy worked in win2k...it was the first thing i tried because i expected it not to work from word on this board...no idea what they did, but the floppy does work in win2k granted the controller or installer isn't defective...

any defective installers out there claiming floppy + win2k incompatibilities?

from the looks of that review, the K7S5A looks WORSE than the original...simply because it isn't black and the power connector isn't on the edge...

u can get all those fsb options using the o/c bioses (i.e.806 or 814)....

u just can't get multiplier adjustments...which i'm not even sure the 2 has...the guy didn't even try them...why not?
