hi every1, i've been wondering if any1 has an input on this. is the ECS K7S5A worth it? i have one right now and it ran on my first try. got it all set up in an hour. but some people are sayin' that it'll crash on me soon enough. has any1 had one that has crashed on them after a few weeks? i've had mine for a little over a week now and it's still running fine. do you think i should get a new board b4 this one crashes?

Yep, mine ran fine for about 3 weeks, during the third week it started random lockups, then after a few days of that it failed to POST. All the same parts except add a LAN card, same Win98 installation booted first try and has run flawlessly for about a month now. Oh, yeah, one part is different,... Shuttle AK31 V3.1 instead of the ECS K7S5A.

No need to sweat it at this point, many others swear by the ECS board, (I swear at it ;). As long as it works, enjoy it, when they work they are wonderful boards.

What RossGr said. I had 6 K7S5A's, 3 died between 2 weeks and 2 months of use. But 3 are still running. So maybe you will be lucky. If it's working right now I certainly wouldn't replace it!

I have 2 of them right now and wished I'd never wasted my money. This coming from someone who a month ago was a devot ECS fan, funny how all that can change with a few weeks of headaches...

hi:

I have 4 K7S5A'S running for 2 months now. I had some very minor issues that I've ironed out. The biggest problem was installing Windows ME. Too long a story but if you use that OS (most don't) then disable ACPI before installation of ME. The other 3 K7S5A's that I built for clients are running 100%. No one has ever called in the last 2 months with problems so I can only assume they are using them and they are running great. Hey my average paying price was $55 for this board. Alot of bang for the buck! ENJOY!;)

<< my average paying price was $55 for this board. Alot of bang for the buck! ENJOY! >>

The average purchase price for the 6 ECS boards I had was $62. However, after replacing 3 of them with Shuttle AK31A's ($80 each ), adding network cards ($8 each), and spending 4 hours each troubleshooting and reassembling (12 hours at $75/hr, the rate I could have got doing more productive things with my time), the average cost was more like $256 each. But the "enjoyment" made it all worthwhile. Not. I couldn't even return any of the broken ones, no one would take them back without a protracted fight. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and run. Fortunately the clients who had the machines that failed were sympathetic (of course not to the point of paying extra) and still remain clients. However it could have turned out differently.

But again, since you already have it you might as well stick with it.

I have a K7S5A that's been running great since August with a 1.4T-Bird@1.54ghz, ultra timings, cas2, ect... and super stable. However, I'm bored with it so I 'm assembling a AK31A tonight(can't wait to tweak the DDR voltage and exceed the core voltage of 1.85 without a mod :D) I pulled my 1.4 and 2100DDR to put it in my AK31A and am using the K7S5A right now with a Duron700@133.3x7=933.1mhz with 256mb SDRAM and running great! In fact I think it's a better value set-up like this since the 1/4 divider is allowing me to overclock this Duron better than my KT7 could and the SDRAM is a bit cheaper than the DDR. Anyways, Like the others said"if you get one that works it's a great board!"

i got my k7s5a back in august when they first came out & everyone was clamoring for them. i've been very pleased. runs very solid, no problems or hiccups at all, & the on-board ethernet is a very nice feature. stick with it - i bet it'll be fine for you!

Three ECS K7S5A systems, one since August, two since October. All running 24/7, no motherboard related problems at all. I'm very pleased with this motherboard and will probably be buying two more in the near future.
