ECS K7S5a problem...

Well one thing I'm finding out is not to build a computer when it's after midnight and your groggy.....

I figured out that the case speaker won't beep during post if you don't have the speaker wire plugged in....(another reason not to build a computer after midnight when you're half asleep...😉)

Now onto the bigger problem.....I can't get Win ME (using the start menu selection) to restart or shut down, the monitor goes blank but the computer is still running. I have tp press and hold the power button to shut down or press the reset button to restart. Any ideas? thanks.......🙂😛😕

First off, why in dog's name are you using winME anyway? both winXP and win98 are more stable. i've had nothign but problems from ME in general.
I've built 7 or 8 computers with the k7s5a, and I've never seen that problem. I'd be willing to bet the farm taht if you used a different OS (g'head, pick any version), the problem would be fixed. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks, dude

UPDATE: It seems as soon as I install the ECS K7S5A drivers for lan, sound, and VGA the not being able to shutdown or restart from windows problem happens. I'll try to reinstall them and see what happens. Anyone else have this problem?

Ok, I uninstalled the LAN, and Sound drivers, and voila, i can shutdown or restart from windows, sooooo, it must be these files, but what's wrong with them?

Many Windows versions (especially those built on DOS) won't shutdown properly when there is an active LAN controller with nothing connected to it.

Ok, I got it isolated. It's the ECS sound driver that when installed won't allow me to restart or shutdown from within windows. What's with that? The LAN driver is not the culprit......thanks anyway...🙁

Make sure you are downloading the right sound driver. The ECS site will give two options, just look at your board to make sure you got the right one.
