New system's specs:

ECS K7S5A Pro Motherboard
Athlon 1700+
2 x 256mb Apacer PC2700
Radeon 7000 32mb AGP
Antec 300W ps
Seagate 40gb 7200.7

I built it, then powered on. Fans spin up, but no POST. Tried swapping the RAM around, slots, taking one out, then the other etc, but this didn't work. After several attempts, it actually went through POST and I got into the BIOS and set 1st boot device as CDROM in order to install the OS. I also set the CPU/DRAM frequency to 166/133 from 100/100 in order to get the most out of the cpu (during that single boot I noticed it was recognizing it as 1100mhz). I reboot. It doesn't POST and will not POST again.

Any advice? I'm going to try reseating the AGP card and if needed the whole damn thing (although I have already checked to make sure every mounting spot is correctly grounded). That single POST is very confusing.

Thanks for any help,

~Malladine

EDIT: I should add that the CDROM consistently revs up, then down, up, then down. When I remove the OS cd and reboot, it continues to attempt to access. Could this be simply a malfunctioning CDROM drive?! The one POST I got out of it was after inserting the OS cd. As I said though, it will not POST anymore, with or without the cd.

EDIT2: Reseating didn't work :(
Considering ordering a new mobo now...probably the Asus A7V8X-X for $65 @ newegg. Still open to any suggestions...

First of all: The frequency setting is supposed to be 133/133. If you set it too high, the thing won't boot anymore. Use the Clear CMOS jumper to revert to default settings (which include 100/100 for CPU/RAM). Then start over.

Thanks Peter, i'll try that. Wonder why it failed to POST so many times before letting me in though...

Well, you might have had something poorly seated to begin with, but it surely won't post now set on 166.
