ECS K7S5a - PC133 vs PC2100

I've set up quite a few ECS K7S5A systems with Crucial PC2100 and AMD XP 1600+ processors. I usually average between 3:40 and 4:00 per WU on these systems. Yesterday, I built the same system for a friend but I used his old PC133 instead of DDR. I am surprised to say that using the slower memory reduces WU time by 15 minutes at most. I was actually expecting the times to go way up, but they did not. Is this what I should have expected or is there something odd going on??

Not that this is bad, BTW! 😀

I did some 3D rendering, flyby, animation and radiosity-computation benchmarks in Caligari trueSpace 4.3 with PC2100 DDR at the most aggressive settings, and with PC133 CL2, and the difference was 0% to 10% in that area. Mine has a 1.4GHz Tbird. The PC133 may be compensating for its lower bandwidth by virtue of its low latency.

What mechBgon said - the local reseller that I got my DDR from (for the K7S5A that I have) indicated I'd see a "noticeable difference" in performance; after a couple weeks now, I'm still looking for the "noticeable difference".

Now Rich, you might just be looking in the wrong place. Isn't your wallet noticably different? 😉
