I've been using those BIOSes for a long time now. :) Never had any problems with them specifically due to the BIOS. My system corrupts floppy disks when I have the FSB/mem set to 138/138 but I can't blame the BIOS for that, as it's perfectly fine at 133/133. But the newest versions increase the standard 100MHz and 133MHz by a few percent so that they're no longer underclocked as they are in the standard BIOS, so you get a little better performance. And the new ones also have versions with fast-writes enabled for AGP, which gave me a 100+ point increase in 3DMark (not much REALLY, but still good).

These BIOS files also have a few minor memory tweaks. The main advantage to these are the additional FSB settings.

I have used them several times on systems that I built for myself and others.

I am using them too and have had no problems. I only use the memory timing settings for my cas2 pc133 and have pick up 7 to 8%.

upped it to 143mhz but sdram probably couldnt take it. 100% stable at 138mhz. probably will downclock mem to 100mgz so i can use two sticks of sdram. damn boatds inability to run two 133mhz mem sdram too bad there isn't a 138/100 setting:)

I have two PC133 sdram running stable. My sdram is a match pair of 256mb Mushkin High Perf. REV2 PC133 222's. my setting are cpu=133/133 ram= ultra 2/6/2. Board will run a 133/133 ultra 2/5/2, but not 100% stable.

These "unofficial" BIOSes are simply modified versions of the official BIOSes (in some cases beta versions). A bad BIOS flash can happen with an official version too. The K7S5A is seriously lacking in options in the BIOS and the Cheepo BIOS opens up some of those options, which ARE in the BIOS but simply set not to appear as a user-changeable option.

Been using the Cheepo bios and before that honeyX since I got my first K7S5A over a year ago. I run Cheepo's on all my mb's now. Never had a problem. Was gonna flash my 2 new Pro's, but they don't seem to want to work out the box. :(

I'm using the Cheepo bios too. Couldn't really run stable at anything other than 133/133. However, even at that standard speed, my processor shows up as a Athlon XP1800+ when really it's an Athlon XP 1700+. I don't know what the deal is with that, but it doesn't seem to have any adverse effect. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to overclocking, so I'm not really sure why I installed the bios in the first place, but for what it's worth, it hasn't given me any problems.

Yeah, I used to only be able to run at 133/133, now I can only run at 100/100. It gets annoying, so I reseated the HSF, got RAM that was running at 133 on a different machine, still didn't work. Time to flash the BIOS with this new upgrade :)

For the k7s5a, the JP1 jumper is for clearing the cmos. To flash the bios, all you need to do is download the flash utility from here and follow the directions. It is really easy.

Good Luck!

I hope someone can help me out.

I have the K75SA Pro Board, but I see 2 different bioses. Which one am I suppose to use. I see the chb0120 and the chb0110. Can someone explain the different between the two? I don't want to flash with the wrong bios.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

They're different revisions chb0120is 10 days 'newer'. Hence the different Release Dates and Version numbers.

So would flashing with the ch0120 for my pro board will work correctly?

Well yes that's the version you should use, but I can't tell you if it's gonna 'work correctly' or not. It's NOT a ECS provided BIOS and I have NFC what you know about flashing a BIOS', so I can't tell you how it'll turn out.

No worries, hope it all goes well and you get a sweet OC out of it.

Good luck!

I'm running HoneyX bios, and system is rock stable at 143/143 with sdram. I just ordered some pc2700 ddr, and when that gets here, I plan to bump it up to 150/150. Have my fingers crossed about those settings working. Else it'll either be 148/148 or boring old 143/143. BTW, I have a JUIxx TbredB.
