when i plug in speakers...no sound while playing winamp...but when i plug the speakers to the CDROM...sound from winamp comes out....

whats going on?

2 things I can think of:

1. You have it disabled in the BIOS.
2. You don't have the drivers loaded properly. Check the device manager.

Plugging speakers into the CDROM will work independently of windows with a lot of units. It has absolutely nothing to do with your sound card.

BTW, great motherboard, I love mine.

Did you run the audio cable from the CD-ROM to the mobo?

EDIT: Sorry, you're probably playing MP3's, not CD's.

Are you using powered speakers? You need to. If you don't they will not work as the onboard sound does not have an amplifier.
