during bootup, i get a FDC failure press F1 to resume error, then of course my floppy drive doesn't work, and my parrallel port won't work either.....during post , it doesn't recognize the port b/c it says none up there where it is listed....any ideas what the problem could be?....this is a brand new mobo and neither of these features have ever worked

Make sure the Floppy Disk Controller is enabled in the bios. Also, make sure you set the Local Port to either "ECP" or "ECP + EPP", and check to see if it's enabled.

Edit:

To Enable the Floppy Disk Controller (FDC)

1. Enter bios and go to the "Features Setup" sub menu.

2. Make sure the setting "OnBoard FDC" is set to "Enabled"

To setup the Parallel Port (LPT) correctly

1.Go to the "Features Setup Menu"

2.Set "Onboard Parallel Port" to "Auto"

3. Set "Parallel Port Mode" to "ECP + EPP"

4. Leave "Parallel Port IRQ" and "Parallel Port DMA" on the default settings.

Save and exit the bios. Rebbot and Windows should see your hardware. Also make sure your floppy cable is plugged in correctly. :)
