Hiya folks...

I've been out of the hardware loop for about a year and a half, and I'm now considering upgrading. I currently have the ECS K7S5A MB running with a 1.4 ghz AMD processor, and no problems. I've never overclocked this cpu, nor do I have intentions to do so. That said, what's the fastest of the XP line that I can reasonably use with this MB??

Thanks in advance....

To be specific, the 266MHz-based 2600+ and not the 333MHz-based one (don't we wish! ;)).

Besides, if you got a PSU with enough grunt to run a 1400 MHz T-Bird, then you won't have to worry about an XP2600+, since it doesn't consume more. You'll just need a new cooler with a copper base.

From the bios Website...

02/08/09 Award® BIOS. Support AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+ CPU

02/10/01 AMI® BIOS. With LAN and without LAN are the same BIOS
1. Adjust timing for stability and compatibility
2. Auto detect lan function

02/10/29 AMI® BIOS. With LAN and without LAN are the same BIOS
1. Fixed audio test failed issue when using SiS6326 VGA card
2. Patch code for system stability

Would one of the later two bioses also have the support for the xp 2400, or just the first bios noted above? In addition, would it make a difference whether I previously have an AMI bios instead of the Award version? I know I have a revision 1 Motherboard, but I forgot to check the bios...

Thanks in advance...

Dave

That's a typo anyway. There have been no Award BIOS releases for this board. And yes of course, newer BIOS releases still contain the features from previous ones - that history information just documents the changes and additions from one release to the next.
