I am happy for all of you who have a K7S5a running and had it running for more then a month, you may be home free. Mine ran for about 4 weeks before becoming unstable and finally refusing to post. I now have a Shuttle AK31 V3.1 running with the same hardware (except add a $10.00 NIC from Frys) and the SAME Windows installation. It took me 2hrs to install and get online, not a single glitch (hardware induced*) yet. I may a some point in time gamble on another ECS board, but not real soon.

* the biggest trouble that I have incountered was incredibly slow Download, I check network properties and found 2 of everything, removed one nic and reconfigured my TCP/IP settings and now it is fine.

The whole point of this is that since the only thing that has changed from a system which would not post to a appearentlly completely stable system is the mobo. THERE ARE BAD ECS boards out there. You could not have paid me to take the lemon that was microwaved, I only hope he did not damage the microwave doing it. I took mine back to Frys for in house credit.

Likely the generic DDR module you were using. Or a weak power supply. Or incompetence :D

I've had tens of these boards, not only in my own rigs, but used them to build machines for others -- and they've been rock solid. There isn't a better buy right now for $55-$60. The SiS 735 chipset alleviates the pains associated with VIA, and offers performance neck-and-neck with the KT266A.

You could have sent it to me, I would have paid shipping. Hate to see good hardware going to waste. Ah well, it's your money.

Destruction is fun!!!

Sometimes I have a bad temper and break good stuff though :(

I've destroyed two Epson printers, one notebook, one Powermac 8100/100 in last two years

A long time ago I broke my Plextor CD writer(no RW) cuz I had a temper, threw it out a window and it broke.

oh yeah and a 2GB HDD in 1995.. That wasn't cheap then.....

The notebook was a Gateway Solo with 266 or 300MHz PII.... Total loss... I got REALLY pissed about something(doesn't happen often) and threw it down a corridor along with all my school book and such.

<< Man that was stupid. I would have gave you $30 bucks for it >>

It was already crappy to begin with. Do you want the K7S5A carcass for $25?
