ECS k7s5a IDE problem stuck in PIO mode

I just installed a ECS k7s5a mboard.

everything is great, except for my drives being stuck in PIO mode. I'm running win2k. Is there a fix for this?

I had the same prolem and when I wtiched it to PIO 5, it wouldn't boot. Then I realized it was the cables, I wasn't using the proper cables. All was well then until I went back in and checked the drived after several reboots later (normal power down, and restarts) it switched back to PIO mode. Needless to say I could never get it to function consistently. My final solution was new board! Went all out and bought a KR7A-Raid, and I'm in LOOOVE! Two damn ECS POS K7S5A's later and neither one worked, one new ABIT and I'm in heaven!

They're sitting on my shelf! I may decide to build a low end system with them, but not sure when. I'm still a little jilted! 😛

ok, so i set the drive to pio -5 in bios, reboot and runt that utility and reboot again.

do i need to modify any settings in device manager? the only options i see there are, DMA if available. however, ocworkbench says that setting doesn't work. does the utility add another option?

And make sure you occaisionally check that it's still in DMA, b/c there's no grauntee that it will stay there...

Well, i got it working, partly anyway.

my drive on my secondary controller is running in DMA mode. but, the drives on my primary controller are still in PIO mode. i've checked the cables. i just don't get it.

Did you try running siside.exe? I just had the same problem and that worked. Download it from the K7S5A FAQ Drivers section. It will do the trick.
