yes, you have to install the drivers on the CD that came with your mobo...

some older installation CD (v.1) doesn't comes w/ drivers for the CMI9738 codec
depends on the sound chip on your board either the SiS 7012 or CMI 9738 you might have to download it off ecs site.

if you got the v1.25 CD you just pop it in and the installation app should do it for you..

with every installation of windows i ever did... none ever had drivers automatically installed. so i always had to use the installation cd drivers, or just downloaded the drivers from ecs website.

My WinXP installation didn't need drivers for the K7S5A's onboard sound, but Win2K did. Funny thing is I tried the CMedia drivers first from ECS' website and everything installed fine, but no sound would come out of the speakers! So I scrolled further down the drivers page and downloaded the SiS 7012 drivers instead and it worked fine. Both have the K7S5A listed as a supported mobo...

differents revisions of the board carry different sound codec chip.. (if you're not sure just look on the mobo and see whic sound codec chip it has )
