Hi all,

I know this is probably fairly easy for most of you and you have probably already done it, so I figure I should be able to get a response.

I just want to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version to make sure that I can safely run an Athlon XP 2400 or 2600 processor, which appears to be the fastest one that the K7S5A can handle without mods.

To update the BIOS< do I have to move a jumper around and re-boot like you do when you want to clear/reset the BIOS, or can it be performed through a program under Windows XP, etc. ...?

Thanks for amy help you can post, I'm just trying to make sure I don't fry my mobo...LOL

The latest offcial BIOS from ECS for the K7s5a is located here: ftp://ftp.ecs.com.tw/bios/mb/k7/k7s5a/k7s5a021029tsd.exe

First you need to make a DOS boot disk.

In XP you can do this easily. Insert a blank floppy. In My Computer right-click on your floppy drive and pick Format. When the format screen comes up, tick the"Make MS-DOS Boot Disk" option and then click Format.

When it finishes formatting extract the contents of the first file you downloaded to the floppy.

And then download the BIOS flasher tool located here: ftp://ftp.ecs.com.tw/bios/flash/aminf335.exe

Copy that file to the floppy disk as well.

Reboot your computer, leave the floppy in so your system boots from it. When the DOS prompt appears do the following:

type aminf335 021029.rom

It will ask if you are sure you are ready to flash the BIOS, hit Y.

Flashing will begin, do NOT do ANYTHING to your computer while it is in the process of flashing the BIOS. And hope that your power does not go out :) It will only take about 20-25 seconds for it to finish.

When it does finish take out the floppy and reboot.
