I keep hearing about the cmos battery dying on users within 2 days or so. I'm building a pc around this board for a client and was wondering if it'd be wise to replace the battery before I even turn it on for the first time. What do you think?

i have not had any problems with the cmos battery on mine.

i have had dead cmos batteries with lots of new motherboards though. not a bad idea to have
some on hand. and if it's for a client and you're worried, why not? they're cheap enough.

dirty.

There is no fix for this... The battery voltage on the shipping battery is fine. I'ts something youl'll have to live with..Replace the battery if you wish but sooner or later it will crop up again..One thing does seem to help in my case is leaving the power cord plugged into the wall..Keeps residual voltage on the board and seems to lessen the occurance and be the best workaround for me..

Sometimes it's not the battery, but rather the metal arm that makes contact with the upper surface of the battery not pressing firmly enough and momentarily losing good contact.

This is certainly true but a number of people have this issue with the ECS board..I did voltage drop checks on mine so I ruled that out..
If that is the problem then the battery fingers are very weak on this board...I never seem this before..

If you're that concerned about it just give him a spare and explain the signs of a bad battery, and also explain the situation which brings you to offer him a spare. I'm sure he will understand and appreciate you being honest and supplying him with a spare, and he will likely be a lifelong customer for the sake of that 1dollar battery.:)

I would not use that board for myself much less a client. IMO that board is priced so low for a reason...it's cheap. Cheap design, cheap components, "cheap" operation. I will not be a bit suprised when I hear a lot of people bitching about this board in 6 months to a year when they all start crapping out completely.
