need some help from someone that has personally overcome the boot up hang when you update windows.

i need to know exactly how you did it. i see on ecs website that they have a driver that fixes it, but i dont know how to use it. i downloaded it, and semi unzipped it(not at all sure about zip files). but that is it.

also this is another issue, when updating the bios, ecs website says to unzip the *.exe file to a *.rom file. i cannot find how to do this. do you just rename the file or what. i figured i should ask before i messed up my bios.

any and all help would be appreciated.

Most likely, there will either be a file named "setup.exe" that you run to install the driver,
or there will be a file named "readme" which will tell you what to do.

*.exe are programs. Double click on it and it will unzip itself and create the *.rom file.
You generally have to redo the BIOS from DOS. If you don't know how, don't try it until
you completely understand or your computer could quit working.

You've got guts doing this sort of thing with so little experience.

This probably will be answered better in the motherboard section.
