need some help from someone that has personally overcome the boot up hang when you update windows.

i need to know exactly how you did it. i see on ecs website that they have a driver that fixes it, but i dont know how to use it. i downloaded it, and semi unzipped it(not at all sure about zip files). but that is it.

also this is another issue, when updating the bios, ecs website says to unzip the *.exe file to a *.rom file. i cannot find how to do this. do you just rename the file or what. i figured i should ask before i messed up my bios.

any and all help would be appreciated.

Not running XP so can't help you with that but to update BIOS you need to create a DOS bootdisk and put the BIOS --> .ROM, and the AMI.exe which is a flash program into the DOS bootdisk. Once your in DOS then just run the amif332.exe 020429l.ROM

If you downloaded the bios update from the ECS site, I believe they zip it as a self execution zip. Run the file, put it in a folder on your hard drive and transfer it to a floppy or just extract it directly to the floppy. Make sure the *.rom file and the aminf332.exe file are both on the bootable floppy and follow .paldo's instructions and all will be good.

With the update problem, I have been running XP pro with both of my setups with this board and have not had a problem. Check out this thread , I put 2 links to dedicated forums about the K7s5a which should help you.

Good luck!
