ECS K7S5A and Promise Ultra 66

My ECS K7S5A setup is working perfectly.

So of course I have to mess with it.

During large (100mb +) file transfers on my 100GB WD hard drive I'm noticing 70 to 100% CPU utilization.

Yikes

Only have a 1Ghz Duron but I don't think it's the CPU that's the problem, more likely the built in SiS controller.

Had the same problem on my old PPro and the Promise Ultra 66 knocked the CPU utilization during large file copies down to 10 to 20% or so (if memory serves me correctly).

Still have that old Promise Ultra 66 kicking around.

Is anyone using the Promise Ultra 66 for the primary boot device on a ECS K7S5A????

(OS is now 98 but when I install the Promise thinking about going with Win2K).

Can 2000 install directly to the promise 66?

Seem to remember having problems with NT 4 and having to use it as a secondary drive?

Or maybe I was just too lazy to reinstall. It's been so long I forget now!

Thanks for the input on the ECS K7S5A. I hate the boot time added by the Promise cards but they are pretty solid performers.
