hey, built my two brothers a system each, both based on the ecs k7ama board (one with a duron and one an xp 1600)

anyway, both of them will set up fine, but have a heck of a time getting a modem to work in them

i tried for a while on the duron box, was gonna come here and ask for help with the modem, and by chance my bro was fooling around and now it works. this is odd, considering last time he fooled around with a computer he broke the agp port

anyway, cant seem to get a modem to work with the other k7ama, anyone know anything i can try with this specific board? anything in general? itll detect a "pci communications device" but tell me the drivers arent made specifically for the hardware, or, if it takes the drivers without question, installs the modem to com port 5 and tells me its working....only, its not, as when i use it windows says its not recieving a response from the modem

both pc's running windows 98se

thanks

What kind of modem are you trying to install there? PCI? external? AMR?

sorry

a pci modem
tried a creative modem blaster and another v.92 modem with a rockwell chip (forget the brand name)

like i said, the one in the duron is working by pure chance, very odd it is to me

Well if you see the PCI device, then the card installed OK. The rest is driver issues ... maybe a BIOS problem too. Try updating the latter first. But anyway, the #1 modem choice for that board is ECS's own AMR card. Works.
