ECS K75SA upgrade options

I've got a really old ECS K75SA with the Sis 735 chipset. I orginally had an AMD 1.4ghz Thunderbird processor in it and then upgraded to a AMD XP 2100 Thoroughbred processor. I want to get a new CPU again and checked ECS's website to see my upgrade options. Unfortunately their page has not been updated in like 6 months and the latest BIOS says I can only go to a XP 2600.

So my question is, could I put a Barton XP CPU in it or is my only other option to get a new motherboard 🙁

You need a CPU with a 133 MHz front side bus. Currently that means you top out at the 2400+. If you got a 2100+ in there already, that's not worth the hassle.

Though you can put a barton in, let it run at 133fsb, and up the multiplier to ~14 (or more!). Then you get good performance now until you can upgrade to a newer mob that will allow you to run at the 166fsb.

You can get any XP with 133, 166, 200 FSB. You will need to flash the BIOS with the latests Honey X or Cheepos. Have the PC boot up at 133 then use a software overclocker like speedfan to bring the fsb to 166 or 200. The board is extremly stable and post great number when used in this manner. -Warning- it is a little picky about ram, stay away from Kingston Hyper X, but Corsair works fine.

My son has a Athlon XP 1700+ t-bred that runs at the 2000+ speed (12.5x133). You can pick this up for 60 bux. Run at 41-49C (min-max).

yeah really... I would rather look at the other components, perhaps the video card before looking at a CPU upgrade.

there is not point to incrementally upgrade your CPU when your mobo is a f*cking dog. upgrade the mobo and keep the chip you have. it might overclock well too, but you will never know as long as you keep that ECS board.
